WELCOME TO

SBC’s Community BIKE SHOP at the fairbanks and on Commercial street.

Powered by the SBC Athletics Community, the Fairbanks Bike Shop on Commercial Street will open to the public at 411 W. Commercial Street starting this November. The Fairbanks location is also open now.

The shop aims to help the local Springfield community, especially in the Grant Beach and Commercial Street neighborhoods, ride more often and more safely. The program will help kids with simple repairs, bike access, and bicycle education, and will also provide adults with transportation assistance. The shop will provide free helmets for children, free bike repairs, and low-cost rentals and/or sales to the neighborhood around Commercial Street (north-central Springfield).

“The SBC Athletics Community has been riding in Springfield since 2012. We realized we wanted to give back to our community, and one of our team members works at the Fairbanks, and one of our SBC employees did, too. Once we heard about the Fairbanks wanting a bike shop, it was a no-brainer," says Neil Chanter, SBC Athletics team manager/owner.

The Fairbanks Bike Shop is powered by volunteers and donations. The Bike Shop needs donations, including, but not limited to: kid and adult-sized bikes, both working and non-working, bike helmets of all sizes, spare and old bike parts, such as tires, tubes, seats, stems, etc., and bike tools, pumps, chain lube, bike washing equipment, and bike locks.

We accept donations on-site only during bike shop hours.

VOLUNTEERING TO WORK

The SBC Athletics Bike Repair and Rental Shop on Commercial Street and at The Fairbanks aims to help kids build basic repair and biking skills and help adults with transportation issues.  We need folks with basic bike knowledge and others who want to learn on the job!

You can drop off donations during store hours.

To start, work will include getting the bike shop up and running and organized, then helping kids with their bikes, teaching them bike-riding rules, helping with proper helmet fit/placement, etc.  At this point, we need volunteers to staff the shop when it's open, and we also need donations of bikes, bike parts, bike tools, and cleaning/servicing equipment.  Alternatively, you can donate cash towards the shop too, and we'll go find what we need.

WAYS TO DONATE

YOUR TIME

Labor isn't magical. It's minutes spent working hard - but 's fun, too. The shop runs on the generosity of local riders and supporters giving two hours of their time to turn a few wrenches, air up a few tires, wipe down some greasy gear, and most importantly impact their local community around them.

YOUR MONEY

Yep. Seriously. We'll take your money. Some people have time to offer. Others prefer monetary donations - and we are good with that. The Fairbanks Bike Shop as always in need of equipment to keep things running smoothly, be it chain lube, bar tape, or whatever it takes to make things work.

YOUR old bikes and BIKE parts

We'll take nearly everything. Old bikes. Old parts. Old helmets. Everything, including:

OLD HELMETS, KIDS & ADULTS

OLD BIKES, KIDS & ADULTS

TUBES

TIRES

STEMS

SEATS

TOOLS

CHAIN LUBE

WASHING EQUIPMENT

BIKE LOCKS

AND MORE!
